This 1/2-day course aims to develop adult practitioners understanding of the MCA Act 2005 and how to apply the legislation to their safeguarding practice.
The session will support adult practitioners to become more aware of the risk considerations, support options and best practice guidance to enable practitioners to respond effectively and lawfully.
Target Audience:
The session will act as a useful follow up for multi-agency practitioners that have attended Group B or Group C training, and who have not attended MCA training previously. This session is likely to be too basic for qualified / experienced Social Workers or equivalent, however newly qualified registered practitioners may find this session beneficial.
Learning Outcomes:
- Feel confident putting the key Mental Capacity principles into practice, starting with a person’s right to make their own decisions
- Revisit consent to recognise when a capacity assessment is needed.
- Explore the 3 stages in the capacity assessment process and how to evidence and record the assessment.
- Relate the assessment process to everyday working practices including looking at relevant Case Studies
- Demonstrate the Best Interest process and how to apply it in practice
- Describe the role of the attorney who has Lasting Power of Attorney for health and welfare
