This course has been designed to develop practitioner understanding of complex neglect (where children and young people are exposed to multiple typologies of neglect). Learners will develop a deeper understanding of the factors that underpin neglect and skills to prevent it.
Target Audience:
Practitioners from statutory and non-statutory sectors who work in front facing roles with children, adults, and families, including drawing learning from case reviews.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the multiple typologies of neglect including typologies that are not commonly recognised and understood such as parentification, adolescent and affluent neglect
- Recognise and understand the effects of neglect and the impact that neglect has on a societal level
- Understand the factors that impede our ability to identify neglect
- Develop an understanding of the factors that underpin neglect and skills to prevent it
- Recognise signs and risk indicators of neglect
- Understand neglect through a trauma informed lens
- The role of supervision
- Assessment tools
