Who experiences domestic abuse?
Domestic abuse can happen to anyone. The majority of domestic abuse is perpetrated by men against women, however women also perpetrate abuse against men and it can also be perpetrated within same sex relationships, by other family members such as older/ adult children, between siblings, or extended family members.
Domestic abuse can also impact negatively on children whether or not they are abused directly and/ or witness, hear or intervene in an incident.
Creating safe spaces for people to talk
It is important people who may be experiencing domestic abuse are provided with opportunities to talk away from the perpetrator. Not everyone will want to talk, but by providing safe opportunities for people to talk, this means when they are ready we can help ensure they remain safe and can help them to get the help and support they need.
