Target Audience

This training is suitable for all multi‑agency practitioners—whether registered, regulated, or in volunteer roles—who have regular contact with adults, children, or members of the public as part of their duties.

Aim

To increase awareness and understanding of how to recognise the signs and indicators of adult exploitation, and how to respond in a focused, effective, and safeguarding‑centred way.

Training Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Define what is meant by a vulnerable adult, recognise different forms of vulnerability, and understand how these increase susceptibility to exploitation.
  • Understand the grooming processes involved in adult exploitation, including mate crime and cuckooing, and identify how these methods differ.
  • Identify who is most likely to be targeted and the tactics perpetrators commonly use.
  • Discuss critically the impact of exploitation on individuals—immediate, short‑term, and long‑term.
  • Recognise roles and responsibilities in preventing, identifying, reducing, and disrupting exploitation within a professional or volunteer capacity.
  • Identify local support services and know how to signpost individuals appropriately and safely.
