This course explores the core concepts, patterns, and practitioner responsibilities surrounding CSE. Extra-familial harm refers to abuse and exploitation that takes place outside the family home — in peer groups, gangs, online, in communities, and within institutions. We address harmful myths, common gaps, and how systems respond differently depending on identity. Suitable for those new to the topic or needing a structured refresher.
You will learn to:
• Recognise the different forms and dynamics of CSE
• Identify indicators of harm and grooming
• Challenge myths that obscure risk or minimize harm
• Consider how gender, class and race influence recognition and response
