Aim of half day
This course will help delegates to have a basic understanding of executive functioning and the difficulties that can arise when these skills are compromised including decision making (MCA Act 2005) and safety. The half day will explain how an individual can “talk the talk” but cannot follow through and take action (walk the walk). It will briefly consider some conditions that can impact of decision making abilities and how best to support someone effected by executive dysfunction.
Target Audience - Practitioners working with young people and adults.
At the end of the session delegates will be able to:-
- Explain what executive functions are and how we use these skills in everyday life.
- Define Executive functioning, demonstrating the abilities that can be compromised and what effect this can have on someone’s decision making ability.
- Discuss some conditions that may cause problems with executive functioning.
- Explain Decisional v Executive Capacity and make links to MCA Act 2005
- Identify factors that can mask inabilities.
- Explore tips for coping with executive dysfunction to support the individual
