In May, the Gwent Safeguarding Board Local Safeguarding Networks facilitated online practitioner events with a theme of ‘Improving Practice: Learning from Reviews.’
2023 saw two large scale national reviews (the Care Inspectorate Wales Child Protection Rapid Review and the National Independent Safeguarding Board ‘Risk, Response, Review Child Practice Review Thematic) which highlighted learning for all regional safeguarding boards and partners. The presentations featured during the events explored the importance of the review process, highlighted some of the key areas of learning identified, and emphasised links with the strategic priorities of the Board that are laid out in the 2023-26 strategic plan. The events generated an attendance of almost 300 practitioners from statutory and third sector organisations across two sessions and a wealth of discussion took place following each presentation, demonstrating the commitment to learning across the region. Feedback suggests that participants found the events informative and thought provoking and welcomed the opportunity for reflection.
The Board would like to take the opportunity to thank all those involved in the events and are keen to see this replicated during Safeguarding Week which will be the week commencing 11th November.
