Understanding Sexual Violence Training

One-day course for multi-agency staff and volunteers across Gwent, who may come into contact with staff or the general public disclosing domestic abuse.

Aims and Objectives

Aim:

To understand sexual violence and sexual abuse

Objectives:   

  • Define rape and sexual abuse
  • Describe the prevalence of sexual violence
  • Identify common myths and stereotypes and their impact
  • Describe some of the long and short term consequences of rape and sexual abuse
  • Identify a range of sexual abuse and trauma responses
  • Describe how rape in different circumstance may impact on individuals
  • Consider their own boundaries and role when working with sexual violence
  • Identify key elements of good practice
  • Explain the importance of forensic integrity
  • Describe the range of support options available

VAWDASV National Training Framework - Specialist Subject Syllabus

This training is part of the VAWDASV National Training Framework’s (NTF) Specialist Subject Syllabus (SSS). The Specialist Subject Syllabus is training delivered by various specialist VAWDASV Services, which can be accessed locally by any profession. All training sessions under the SSS meets certain learning outcomes, can be assessed against certain criteria and is consistent with other training delivered across Wales. Each session is developed to support and strengthen learning gained within Groups 1-6 of the NTF.

Access

This course is delivered via MS Teams it is virtual, however, it is designed to incorporate virtual versions of in class activities. You will need to access via a suitable device such as a laptop or desktop computer (mobile phones do not provide the functionality required)
